Hi, maybe i could also share experience with U in Suse.
From 9.0 to now 9.2, i have no problem with suse. Here is my first note with the installation of SCIM:
1. Install all RPM packages of SCIM with YAST, check dependency
first "install and remove software", then "search" for everything with name of scim, then install all? then independency problems occurred, i chose "ignore", then no more words, but all these packages shows red.
2. then in console, type "scim -d", You should find no error!
error happens as this:
Smart Common Input Method 0.5.1
Loading simple Config module ...
Creating backend ...
Loading Server module: rawcode ...
Loading Server Factory 0 ... : OK
rawcode Server module is successfully loaded.
Loading Server module: socket ...
Failed to load socket Server module.
Loading Server module: table ...
Failed to load table Server module.
Loading x11-gtk FrontEnd module ...
Starting SCIM as daemon ...
3. edit /etc/sysconfig/language
? ? RC_LC_CTYPE="zh_CN.GB2312"
4.download xim from fabian's website: ( http://www.suse.de/~mfabian/misc/xim)
? ?and save it to ~/.xim
5. restart linux
6. After then, U could find the square box of SCIM at the right bottom corner.
7. "ctrl+space" to active the input method and change to PinYing etc.
then I did everything U said and no input bar appears. Originally posted by polyhedron at 2005-4-5 20:35

1. U should not use "ignore" to pass through dependency checking, that make no sense.
(BTW: sure, you need not to tick some IME of Japanese or Korea packages)
like that: (see Fig.1)
!!! This Installation is first of first. !!!
2. Due to your incompleted installation you get errors with "scim -d"
please return to fisrt step and try again.
U should get like this : (my Suse is 9.2)
==========================
oUo@linux:~/tmp> scim -d
Smart Common Input Method 1.0.1
Launching a SCIM process with x11...
Running: /usr/lib/scim-1.0/scim-launcher-daemon -c socket
SCIM has been successfully launched.
oUo@linux:~/tmp>

I will be waiting for you at the end of success! SCIM interface like that(see Fig.2)
U will make it !

when i "search" for "scim", i cannot see the options as yours, but as this:
so, where can i find these packs? If U choose all of them, what comes from the dependency checking then?
just copy it here.
or, mark all the needed package according to the dependency checking... and install them.
then "scim -d "
good luck...

some internet resource about SCIM:

[ Last edited by oUo on 2005-4-6 at 21:27 ] i have already downloaded a version of scim, but no idea how to install it...
and all scim versions can be well installed onto suse? or special ones?
[ Last edited by polyhedron on 2005-4-6 at 21:58 ] As for newbie, I still recommendthe method i said at first.
i.e. The simplest way isto use YAST to install the packages!
===========
If U download packages, It better to let YAST download it for U from the remote ftp server of suse. It will choose the right packages for your version.
===========
Ja, U can download from certain FTP, but should be careful of its Linux Distribution (e.g. Suse or redhat etc.) and its version...
If U have got theright RPM for your SUSE. yetit is better to use YAST to install it.
Otherweise U have to recompile the source accordingly. That maybe somewhat uncomfortable.
Please feel free to share your experience here inboard, if someone can help...
