叶芝的诗歌:一个爱尔兰飞行员预见自己的死亡

叶芝此诗,为纪念诗人朋友在一战中阵亡的儿子而作。
全诗抄录如下:

一个爱尔兰飞行员预见自己的死亡

An Irish Airman Forsees His Death

I know that I shall meet my fate
somewhere among the clouds above;
Those that I fight I do not hate,
Those that I guard I do not love;
My country is Kiltartan Cross,
my coutrymenKiltartan's poor,
no likely end could bring them loss
or leave them happier thanbefore.
Nor law,nor duty bade me fight,
nor publicmen ,nor cheering crowds,
A lonely im pulse of delight
drove to this tumult in the clouds;
I balanced all,brought all to mind,
the years to come seemed waste of breath,
a waste of breath the years behind
in the balance with this life,this death.
