In my point of view, you should definitely not send such an unprofessional application letter under consideration of your major which is English literature. You’d better check through the internet how a letter should be handled. Polish it prior to your sending.
Dear Prof. Dr. xxx,
I have found your information on the website of the faculty of humanities and I am glad to write this letter to inquire whether you have any position available for PH.D student.
possibly start with
”Hereby I am sending you this letter to express my passion of working as Ph.D candidate in your group…. “
My name is XXX, (no need for providing your name) "As a Master student majoring in British and American Literature in XXX University, China, I have ..(write what you accomplished, what skills you posses, and what achievement you obtained ....). Please refer to my CV for more detail information of my background" Since this is the last semester of my postgraduate study, I shall receive my master's degree on June. "The graduation of my Master study is foreseen to be on this June..... Therefore a possible start time from my side could be xxx."
"The success of my Master study allows me to obtain a grant from a national xxx so-called “doctoral scholarship from Chinese Scholarship Council” which could financially support my stay in Germany and as part of my research fond."
(Here you could also add one paragraph showing the positive side of your participation in the group, which merit you could bring to the group)
If you take me into consideration, I will send other relevant materials to you. My curriculum vitae and undergraduate and postgraduate transcripts are attached below.
Besides, if I am lucky enough to be accepted by you, I can hold doctoral scholarship from Chinese Scholarship Council in my own country.
Thanks a lot!
"I appropriate your consideration of my application. Please do not hesitate to
contact me if you have further questions."
"I am always looking forward to your reply at your convenience."
