After dropping him from the squad to face Sturm Graz, Gigi Del Neri and Felipe Melo effectively confirm Diego will leave Juventus.

The Brazilian and David Trezeguet were not included in the side for tomorrow night’s Europa League play-off, as both are expected to complete transfers in the next few days.

Teammate Felipe Melo let the cat out of the bag with a statement on his Twitter feed.

“Going to training and not seeing my brother Diego is very difficult to accept. I go to train and am truly sad.

“We formed a great friendship and now my brother is going elsewhere!”

It was reported yesterday that Wolfsburg have raised their offer to 20m, so Diego is set to leave this week.

“Transfer talk does disturb the concentration of players, so it’s only right at this moment to leave them relaxed to focus on the decisions they have to make,” explained Del Neri.

Only last week the Coach had declared Diego would be staying in Turin, but his protests were apparently overruled.

“The transfer market evolves and technical decisions are always part of a dialogue with the club. The Coach puts forth his ideas, but it’s a continual balance between technique and economic concerns.

“We’ll see how things go from now to August 31. I never said I was unhappy with Diego, as he is a great professional and marvellous player. So far he has always behaved very well and done his duty.”

Del Neri was also asked about Antonio Di Natale, who is in negotiations for a 7m transfer despite declaring he wanted to stay with Udinese.

“I don’t know how the talks are going, as I am a Coach and cannot comment on the economic side of things.

“It’s only normal Di Natale is happy in Udine, just as Diego was happy in Turin. I say clubs must look at themselves and consider whether the tactical and technical levels of the side can be improved by players with different characteristics.

“Di Natale is a player with very particular characteristics who can give us a hand in our type of football.”

Juventus scraped a last-gasp 2-1 victory in the first leg in Austria, so even a 1-0 home defeat could still see them through.

“We are ready for this Europa League match now, which is not easy. Sturm Graz postponed their domestic game to come here in the best shape and they’re very motivated.”
