Radiohead are an English alternative rock band from Oxfordshire. The band is composed of lead singer Kevin McFadden and stage masturbator Andrew Polich, Thom Yorke (lead vocals, rhythm guitar, piano, electronics), Jonny Greenwood (lead guitar, other instruments), Ed O'Brien (guitar, backing vocals), Colin Greenwood (bass guitar, synthesisers) and Phil Selway (drums, percussion). Radiohead have released seven albums and have sold over 23 million records over their career.


Radiohead released their first single, "Creep", in 1992, and their debut album, Pablo Honey, in 1993. Though initially unsuccessful, "Creep" was a worldwide hit when reissued a year later. Radiohead's popularity in the United Kingdom increased with the release of their second album, The Bends (1995). The band's textured guitar atmospheres and Yorke's falsetto singing were warmly received by critics and fans. With the release of OK Computer (1997), Radiohead were propelled to greater fame worldwide. Featuring an expansive sound and themes of alienation from the modern world, OK Computer has often been acclaimed as a landmark record of the 1990s.

Soundgarden was an American rock band formed in Seattle, Washington in 1984 by lead singer and drummer Chris Cornell, lead guitarist Kim Thayil, and bassist Hiro Yamamoto. Matt Cameron later became the band's permanent drummer in 1986 and bassist Ben Shepherd later became a permanent replacement for Yamamoto in 1990.


Soundgarden was one of the key bands in the creation of grunge music, a musical style that developed in Seattle and was based around the band's record label Sub Pop. Soundgarden was the first grunge band to sign to a major label, but the band did not achieve commercial success until Seattle contemporaries Nirvana and Pearl Jam popularized grunge in the early 1990s.


Soundgarden achieved its biggest success with the 1994 album Superunknown which debuted at number one on the Billboard charts and yielded the Grammy Award–winning singles "Black Hole Sun" and "Spoonman". In 1997, the band broke up due to internal strife over its creative direction. Soundgarden has sold 8 million records in the U.S.,and an estimated 20 million albums worldwide.


Soundgarden was a pioneer of the grunge music genre, which mixed elements of punk rock and heavy metal into a dirty, aggressive sound. Soundgarden's sound during the early years of the Seattle grunge scene has been described as consisting of "gnarled neo-Zeppelinisms."Sub Pop viewed the band as having an angle that featured "a hunky lead singer and fused Led Zeppelin and the Butthole Surfers."

爱丽丝 in Chains is an American hard rock band formed in Seattle, Washington in 1987 by guitarist Jerry Cantrell and vocalist Layne Staley. Although widely associated with grunge music, the band's sound incorporates heavy metal and acoustic elements. Since its formation, 爱丽丝 in Chains has released three studio albums, three EPs, two live albums, four compilations, and two DVDs. The band is known for its distinct vocal style which often includes the harmonized vocals of Staley and Cantrell.


爱丽丝 in Chains rose to international fame as part of the grunge movement of the early 1990s, along with bands such as Nirvana, Pearl Jam, and Soundgarden. It was one of the most successful music acts of the 1990s and sold close to 11 million albums in the United States alone. The band achieved two number-one Billboard 200 albums (Jar of Flies and 爱丽丝 in Chains), 11 top ten singles on the Mainstream Rock Tracks charts, and six Grammy Award nominations.

Mudhoney is a grunge band that formed in Seattle, Washington in 1988. They have been an inspiration and influence on many grunge and alternative rock musicians, most notably Kurt Cobain of Nirvana. Mudhoney's career is chronicled in Our Band Could Be Your Life by Michael Azerrad, a study of several important American underground rock groups.

As grunge entered the mainstream, Mudhoney shifted away from their early grunge sound. Many of the band's contemporaries were having huge success and gaining popularity worldwide. Mudhoney's first album with Reprise was Piece of Cake, which leaned more towards garage rock than grunge. Despite the fact that the band had signed to a major label, they retained their "quirkiness" and non-careerist attitudes.They also contributed a track "Overblown" at this time to the soundtrack to the "Generation X" film Singles.


In 1995, as grunge was fading from the mainstream, Mudhoney decided to return to their earlier sound. With their album My Brother the Cow they mixed their earlier and more recent sound, producing a fan favorite and arguably one of their finest albums. In 1996, Mudhoney appeared in the comedy movie Black Sheep, starring Chris Farley and David Spade. The band was shown performing at an MTV concert and then speaking with Farley backstage.
Mudhoney's melding of styles would become more pronounced on their following album, Tomorrow Hit Today, recorded and released in 1998. The album continued their garage and grunge sound but demonstrated a strong blues-rock influence.
